Here are some free 6" blast gate plans

I've made a bunch of different blast gates.  My original pivot gates were replaced in 2019 with new slide gates which became V2 and V3.

For the V2 and V3 plans just click on the links below for a .pdf file that you can print and use in your shop.
My original pivot gate design is on the bottom of this page - not recommended though because of clogging issues.

Old deprecated design - Dust collection 6" blast gate plans

NOTE:
These have been replaced with the new 2019 versions above.   IOW, I don't recommend these old gates.

Picture
I like these blast gates.  They are fairly simple to build and real easy to operate.  A quick glance tells you whether they are open or closed.

I built mine out of mdf, but in the future, I'll use birch plywood.  The mdf is fine, but the gate tab broke off on one - I fixed it by screwing on a small plate.  Plywood would just be more durable in the long run.

Build one for yourself and let me know how it goes - you can send me an email using the form at the bottom of this page.

More information and pictures of the gates are here:  Shigshop.com dust collection

Click on the drawing images for a larger view.  You can then copy and paste these into another program, such as wordpad for printing.

There are a few notes on the drawings as well as dimensions.

This is the complete 6" blast gate.  Using 1/2" to 1" screws, I'll put a sheet metal flange on each of the outside plates.

The flange then attaches the gate to the trunk lines.

The gate.  Pieces of rope go through holes on the edges.  The larger holes leave room for a figure eight knot.

These are the spacers and cleat.  Only use the cleat if the unit is going to be installed on a post or wall.

The outside plates are screwed to the spacers with wood screws - no glue needed.

The gate should be a snug fit - friction prevents it from closing when it's supposed to be open.

The closed, then open gate is for my table saw.  Because of it's angle, sometimes debris can fall into the gap next to the spacers on the bottom.  You can just barely see a little hatch door I put there to clean it out when that happens...

I had to reinforce this gate on top because it's mdf.

On the other gate in these pics, you can see I used some spare pex tubing to route the ropes to a more convenient location.

As you can see, they make handy little shelves too.

Use birch plywood if you build some.
