Portable bandsaw stand plans

Note: This page uses links to Amazon.com of which Shigshop.com is an affiliate member.

This is a versatile, small, inexpensive, and easy to build portable bandsaw stand for a Milwaukee portable bandsaw (model 6230).  I'm providing the following set of plans for free.  They should give you a pretty good idea on how to build one - it's a very simple stand.

Here's a rough material list:

  • about 2 board feet of 4 quarter material - I used scraps
  • 6" of 5/16" threaded rod (for clamp)
  • 2 - 5/16" t nuts (for clamp - 2 more if you want to make thumb screws)
  • 2 - 5/16" thumb screws (I made mine using wood scraps and t nuts)
  • 8 - 2" wood screws to attach horizontal stabilizers and vertical supports
  • 1 1/2" piece of 3/4" dowel
  • 1 - 1 1/2" screw for trigger cam

Build one for yourself and let me know how it goes - you can send me an email using the form at the bottom of this page.

Please don't copy and publish these plans on any other website - linking to them is appreciated.

I used 1" thick material for the base so that there isn't too much pressure on the bandsaw's cord strain relief when the saw is mounted and sitting on a bench.  Anything thinner than 1" could have caused a problem with my Milwaukee saw.

Make sure the saw has a nice snug fit between the supports before attaching them.

There is a relief cut out on the front face, above the large slot.  You can see it in the pictures on the portable bandsaw stand page.  Cut this relief during final fit up.  An upright woodworking bandsaw works well for these cuts, or a spindle sander could be used.

No, it's not a duck - they are the trigger pieces with dimensions and notes.

Note the relief on the bottom of the trigger bar.  There is also a similar relief along the back side that's not shown.  Cut these during final fit.  An upright woodworking bandsaw works well for these cuts, or a spindle sander could be used.
Chamfer the edges on the clamp, and trigger pieces.

Cut the 6" threaded rod in half and use it along with the t nuts for the clamp.

Put a finish on it - I used a water based polyurethane.  Without a finish, the stand will get metal shaving and oil embedded into it causing it to look pretty bad and wear out faster.

Note: I have an older model 6230.  The saw in the link is a newer 6232.  Comparing pictures between the 2 models, it sure looks like the dimensions on the plans will need adjusting, or possibly, the plans won't work.  Regardless, if you have or come across an old 6230, these plans will work.
